Maybe that’s not how all great stories begin, but ours does. Juliet Books started as a crazy idea that blossomed into a wild “we’re doing this” adventure, and we can’t wait to become the next great gathering place for readers, writers, casual browsers and obsessive book lovers.
In addition to our fiction and nonfiction selection (plus curated used books for diehard bargain hunters), we’ll have hot coffee and cold beverages. A selection of greeting cards that say just the right thing. Beautiful journals, inspiring art, and a delightful selection of trinkets and treasures that you didn’t know you needed until you walked through the door. Oh, and the children’s loft? You will be perfectly enchanted.

Meet the main characters
Founded by Marcie Montague, Juliet Books is an independent bookstore and gift shop designed to bring a different kind of experience to the neighborhood, one built around books, community, local creativity, and the joy of discovery. And if you’re lucky, you may also be greeted by Maisy, Marcie’s dog and the shop’s beloved four-legged sidekick.
After a long career in tech leadership, Marcie decided to invest in something she had dreamed about for over a decade: opening a bookstore of her own. What began as a personal dream quickly became something bigger, a chance to create a space where people can gather, browse, connect, and support the Cary community in a meaningful way.
At Juliet Books, you’ll find carefully chosen books alongside beautiful things from local makers and artists, making every visit a chance to discover something special while supporting small businesses close to home.
The store’s name is a literary nod to Shakespeare’s Juliet Capulet and Marcie’s own last name, Montague, with a twist. Juliet Books imagines a happier ending to a classic story, and that idea shapes everything about the shop: fresh starts, unexpected chapters, and the belief that stories can bring people together.
From a dedicated children’s space to future book clubs, events, and gatherings, Juliet Books
is being built as a true community store: warm, welcoming, and woven into the life of downtown Cary.
Kristine was lucky enough to witness the first inkling of an idea for Juliet Books. She and Marcie spent years running with Bond Brothers Run Club through downtown Cary, dreaming about how amazing it would be to open a bookstore one day. Although her full-time job keeps her weekdays busy, Kristine will contribute behind the scenes to be sure everyone in Cary has the best books to read.

At Juliet Books, we have a small, curated selection of books ready for their second adventure. While we’re not ready to buy your used books or implement a store credit program yet, rest assured we’ll keep these shelves stocked with interesting titles that surprise and delight you.
